Worship
Worshipping God is a vital part of our relationship to Him. Through worship we express to Him our love, gratitude, and the dedication of ourselves to Him and His kingdom. Corporate worship offers us the chance to gather each week to express these things together, as a body. We seek to offer each person who comes a chance to express himself to God through music that engages both mind and heart. We also encourage each person to have a personal time of worship with God on a daily basis, realizing that time spent praying and hearing God speak to us through His word is just as important as joining together to worship, and in fact enhances corporate worship too.
Evangelization
Leading non-believers to a relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important task we have. We know that Jesus is the only way to heaven for members of our family, friends, and community. Evangelism must be intentional. We must keep planning and executing attempts to spread the gospel to those around us and hopefully attract them to our church. But evangelism must also be relational. It is an “as you go” process, taking advantage of chance meetings and casual time shared with others as opportunities to inject spiritual thoughts and even lead someone to faith in Jesus. We want to see every one of our members be able to share their personal testimony of how they came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Discipleship
Jesus did not say go and make believers, He said go and make disciples. And we want every member of OHBC to be growing in their understanding of their identity in Christ. Some of this growth will take place as members regularly gather for the study of God’s word in our Sunday School program. But we also want to offer meaningful Discipleship courses during the year that allow for more in-depth study that leads to a ever deepening walk with Christ.
Fellowship
When we were born again God intended that we become a part of a new family, a local church. It is through this new family that we will be able to minister to one another and help meet the needs each person has. The primary way we seek to do this is through our Sunday School. In an age appropriate class each member can find strength, concern, support, involvement, and personal care. And it is in these small groups that members get a chance to develop new and life-long friendships with other Christians as they study God’s word together.
Ministry
We expect each member God places in OHBC to join us in ministering to the body through the use of their spiritual gifts and their financial resources. God has designed His church to function in a coordinated effort to do the work of the church. Only when all the members take part and contribute can the church ever be what Jesus wants to make it. Therefore we believe church membership should equal ministry.
Missions
From their beginning Southern Baptist have always supported missions. These efforts to reach others for Jesus must begin at home but must not be limited by state or national boundaries. Therefore we believe that our members should be willing to give above and beyond their regular tithes and offerings to support the mission work of Southern Baptists. In addition we want to provide opportunities for members to become personally involved in mission work locally, nationally, and internationally.
