Becoming A Christian

God made mankind for the simple pleasure of sharing our lives with Him. But when Adam and Eve sinned it separated them from God. Each of us has inherited a sin nature from that first couple and our own sin has in turn separated us from God as well. But none of this caught God by surprise. He knew before the world was created that mankind would sin yet He made us any way, determining beforehand to provide a way for us to be reunited with Him in a close, personal relationship. The way He made this possible was by sending Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, to provide for our reconciliation. Jesus lived a sinless life, died on a cross to take the punishment for our sin, and rose from the grave on the third day. Our response to God’s offer is to admit that we have sinned, ask for His forgiveness, place our trust totally in Jesus, and turn away from our old way of life to the new life He will show us and enable us to live. When we do that God removes the guilt of our sin and gives us credit for the perfect life Jesus lived. Once we’ve accepted His gift we need to follow by being baptized and becoming an active part of a local church where we can worship God, serve others, and deepen our understanding of what it means to be a Christian.
